Hans,
There will be few persons who have Pukeko hackle. I have a bunch of it l got when in NZ many years ago, so far as l am aware they are now protected. Interesting feather, black underside and dark blue upper. The Pukeko series is a very interesting range of NZ flies, some of which l used to use a great deal. DW

Not sure you are correct on the bird's protection status, as it is being legally hunted as far as I know. I do agree not many in Arkansas will have access to the feathers - but then I tied the fly to share with NZ friends, and posting the image t this forum is a 'by-catch' ;-) As you can appreciate, the feather use is only a small part to the pattern - it is of a generic design, and tiers are encouraged to substitute their own materials. Hans, l am probably the only person in AR that has that feather, fact l do not know any one else here in US that has some.
