Though it required a wait of about an hour to allow the vicious storm to pass over, I was the only fool at the access Friday mid-day. The rain and lightning
let up enough for me to fish four hours before the water came up. Fishing alone in the catch and release area is a rarity which brought good results. My first
three fish were a bow, a cutt and a brown. No huge fish were taken, the biggest a 17 inch rainbow. However, there were lots of fish in the 13 to 15 inch range
that were hungry for a copper midge. Several of these fish were fat as footballs. A couple were so big around they looked deformed. There seemed to be a good
fight in most of these fish also. As the water started rising, the trout went on a feeding frenzy. Fishing a shallow run with a soft hackle, fish after fish
crushed the fly as it swung across current. Thankfully, one good fish broke off the fly and I came to my senses to walk out ahead of the water rise. I never
did catch a brook to complete the slam. No matter. I left happy.
