Some of you might think I'm crazy, BUT I am going to float and row the entire Buffalo River this spring and hopefully the King's River also. Of course
it will be in the Hyde, so I need to get a bunch of rowing in to built up the stamina of rowing 10-12 miles per day for up to 2 weeks at a time. The Buffalo is
132 miles from Boxley to Buffalo City and the King's is about 70 miles from Marble to Sommer's Ford.
Part of this is pleasure but I'm also doing it to raise money for "Reel Recovery", a men's cancer retreat like "Casting for Recovery" and women with breast cancer. These retreats are at no cost to the men and include 2 1/2 days of group discussions and fly fishing for the guys. It costs about 8 grand to put on one of these retreats and they are well worth it. I got to go to one in Indiana.
To get to the point, I'll need a bunch of rowing time to get in shape. I can go to the local lake and row back and forth but would rather do it on the river. I am offering my boat rowing ability free to anyone that wants to be on the river, White, Norfork, Little Red. All you need to provide is your own stuff and take care of the shuttle and a donation of a six pack of Ensure Plus in chocolate. I am not offering my guide service but a means to get to areas of the river that you can't get to by walking - a free boat ride. I won't just row and blast you down the river but will provide a different means to fish. You will control where we fish.
So how about it. Is anyone up for it?
By the way, there will be opportunities to help sponsor the trips and also float along with me. Hopefully I can get some free t-shirts with logos to go along with the sponsorships. Also when we do the retreat in Arkansas this Fall, hopefully. It will be at Cedarwood Lodge on the White and we will need some fishing buddies for the guys if anyone would like to help.
Contact me if you are interested in this.
