I'll be up (from south LA) for a week in early August with my almost 6 yr. old boy and 10 yr. old little girl in tow. They both like to fish and each have their own fly rods.
While I've been heading up for over 20 years, this will be their first time up, and I plan on spending a good deal of time with them on Dry Run. (Actually, experience has taught me that I'll be lucky to get to wet a line at all during the whole week!)
Over the last 7 years each fall at SOC, my son, Ian, (now 14 - he'll also be up with us in August) has spend the better part of a week on Dry Run. We understand fishing Dry Run in October fairly well... soft hackles, scuds, small nymphs, Griffith's Gnats, and etc.
I also understand that my vest needs to be stocked with lots of tippet and that my boxes need to be overflowing with flies when I'm "guiding" young ones on Dry Run Creek. To that end, I'm starting tie to prepare for the "shower of flies into the vegetation" that will occur.
What all that in mind, I'd appreciate any suggestions on specific patterns that are most likely to result in smiles for the kids on an August trip to Dry Run.
In addition, I was reading the "Re: Dry Creek Question" where "bubba orvis" referred to fishing "at the AGFC catfish pond with all the wardens wandering around." I've never heard of the AGFC catfish pond. I assume its a "kids only" deal, and for variation it may be of interest to my kids while we're visiting. Could someone please fill me in on the details of the AGFC catfish pond?
Thanks.
