I drove up to the NF on Saturday morning. I didn't set the alarm clock because I wasn't sure I wanted the total 5hours of driving after a hard day of fishing, but I am just not that old yet. I got up, fed the dog, made a pot of coffee and got on the road around 6:30.
I got to Ackerman's around 9:30 after having to stop a plenty to get rid of the coffee.
Man, the river was unbelievably crowded! The White was dirty and I guess everyone headed over to fish.
The bad thing about Ackerman's is limited parking and the idiots that think they need 3 spaces to park.
Even with the crowds I had my favorite places to fish below Charlie Cooks place. People cleared out around 12 and that made it open up more.
I caught some really nice bows, a good 20" brown, 18" cutt and several other cutts and a nice brookie.
The fish are in great shape. Mostly feeding on midges, caddis, and bwo. I caught a good dozen on a dry caddis and the rest under an indicator.
The NF is my favorite AR river and even with the crowds it still remains unspoiled at least at Ackerman's. I didn't see any trash except for a car door above Cooks place and it was in the river. The four o'clock flotilla hatch didn't have any problem getting around it.
I would say that the dry fly fishing should be great in a couple of weeks if we don't get blown out with generation.
All in all, I am glad I made my 1000th trip(maybe not that many) to my favorite river and didn't get disappointed. I still enjoy the catching part but the scenery is still first rate.
