I realize in the end, the line isn't' really going to reach our final destination until the rod is stopped.  And I understand what you're saying on a standard back cast or forward cast.  I've actually done the bead chain thing on a counter top too, but that doesn't include casts utilizing water tension as well.  We can form a D loop on the back cast and with a change of direction ( no stop) begin a forward cast. The back cast has no stop, and If I look behind me, a loop shape is there.  But in the end, a "complete" cast does require a stop at some point.

Not trying to mud the waters, well maybe Happy.  But, change of direction casts are what make me hesitate to include the stop in my answer. So, on a change of direction cast, is the back "cast" movement and change of direction that forms a D loop not really creating a loop, since no stop occurred? Maybe that should be a separate post, don't mean to hijack this thread with the question.

In other words, a Stop isn't the only way to make a loop form, but change of direction as well.

Sidenote, thanks for disagreeing, value your opinion,

Chris
