Well said, Davy...

I would like to know where you are from too, Big C... That might give us a better idea where to recommend.

One thing I would add is that local fly shops can offer you more than just materials. They can offer tips, lessons, recommendations, etc. on flies and fly tying. Most shops have someone who will sit down with you and show you how to tie a particular fly, use a whip finisher, choose deer hair, and other things that mail order or craft stores don't offer. In addition, fly tiers are very forthcoming with information and will even share materials from their stash to help you. I can't tell you how many times I've had someone watching me tie ask about the material and I've given them enough of that material to tie a few flies of their own, especially if they are a beginner.

I will say that I have bargain hunted at craft stores and the Dollar Tree only to find that these materials not being specifically processed for fly tying were inferior to materials from Wapsi or Hareline.

So, my advice is to stick with a local fly shop in your area. Get to know them and they will bend over backwards to help you.
