Harry .....just so's ya know, about 3 days ago I took out two old Orvis sticks I've had for about 3,000 years and tried to cast 'em in the front yard.

One is an old 2-tip "Midge" model - 7'6" , supposedly for a #5; the other is 6'6" #4 which I built from a blank from when I worked there in "68/'69/'70......whenever. I think it was called the "Flea" model.

The Midge model ----at least in my paltry hands --- was downright SCARY !!!!!!!! With the #5 line on it, I was tossing tailing loops big enough to drive my Suburban AND yo pickemup truck thru.
SIDEWAYS !!!!!!!!

] I had already consumed a coupla glasses of cheap-but-cheerful Merlot, so I was casting just as slowly as is possible for yours truly.
The Flea rod was somewhat more to my liking, at least in terms of a decent loop, and when I put the #4 line on the Midge I was a LOT happier with my loops.
I think some of us critters are just destined to LIKE "faster" rods, even if some of 'em have to be made out of that soulless, oil well residue stuff known as "Carbon Fiber". Maybe I need one of those Paul Young "Bass" rods he made for a while ??????
