rasnickr ...... I COMPLETELY agree with Harry about "shorter" rods on big ol' hairy stuff such as King Salmon. That being said, these days there is a fair amount of usage of big, 10-weight 2-handers for kings, simply 'cause there has been such an up-surge in popularity of those kinds of rods over the last few years.

But think about it ...... if ya hook a 40 pound king on a 9' #10-weight, then your poor, sore tummy is at the end of an only 9-foot lever. If ya hook that same King on a 13 or 15 foot rod, then yore tummy is gonna be a WHOLE lot more sore. It's just physics. You'r at the WRONG end of a very long lever with the 2-hander.
If ya have a bunch of masochism locked up in yourself, I'll loan you a 13 footer or a 15 footer for your trip ........ but ya gotta sign a whole bunch of disclaimers absolving me from any damages incured while struggling with a King on such a rod.

Here's a thought .......... NOBODY in their right mind would even THINK about taking a 2-hander offshore to tangle with even a 25 pound Yellowfin Tuna (even a little guy that size is pretty much a 12-weight fish). And a KIng Salmon, once he quits jumping (assuming he's pretty "fresh" from the ocean) fights just like a Tuna. Thay want to beat you up.
Borrow or buy a good quality, 9-foot #10.
