I fished 3 weeks ago with my daughter. She fished for about 2 hrs before she lost interest. Fortunately, that 2 hours included 20+ fish with a 22 inch bow and a 15 inch brown. Saw fish that were much bigger. Used San Juan worm (light brown), scud, olive micro jig and brown zebra. The brown zebra midge was the most productive. It is tied with a copper bead and wire, brown body and peacock thorax. You can also use partridge hackle and make it a bead head soft hackle for extra action.
Davy is correct about the indicator. With rare exception, 1 - 1.5 feet above the fly is all we needed.
Bowfin47 is dead on with the over size net. The larger net is critical. In the past, my son lost a couple of good fish due to Dad bringing a knife to a gun fight.
Lastly, when I first started fishing with my son. We used light tippet. Now, I seldom go lighter than 4x, even with midges. I truly don't think the fish care and the kids have less breakoffs. I would be interested in other opinions here as most of the guys probably fish there more than I do.
