I belive spawning success relies heavily on water levels in that system and others I imagin. Right now we need a good flood to clean and "fluff" if you would the gravel of the stream.
This allows the fish to make more efficiant and productive redds. Less silt more oxygen can pass throught the gravel while the eggs are developing. A flood can also wash the fish out though to at this time. so yes it is a very fragile system at work here as are many in nature. this is just one of the many factors on the fish pop in that stream. Canoers and harvest, I think have a role in it to. I've seen quite a few dead trout just lying on the bottom dead after a heavy weekends worth of drunken floaters. I have a few other things that I think may be affecting it but I'm no scientist.

Davy, the idea of catching broodstock and relasing wild firgerlings is a swell idea but it probably wouldnt happen like that unles a some idividuals stood up for the what genetic purity they have left. I would guess they would just take a few thousand from the nearest trout farm and release them to feed the browns and otters. Way cheaper for them that way. Though I would like to see the other.
In my time on the river otters are not as bad as they were a few years ago. alot of trapping happens on that river every winter.

Let me know when you are going to swing by to fish.
