Has anyone been fishing Beaver T. lately? Is it getting low enough to wade?

I fished yesterday morning and it's plenty low enough to wade. The past few days have seen very little generation, with the water off all morning and early
afternoon. With the lake over 1129' and rain in the forecast for the weekend, who knows how long it will remain wadable, but get up there if you can. The
fish yesterday were feisty from sunrise until about 8:30 or so. They pretty much shut off when the sun came over the ridge and hit the water.

What is this thing you speak of--"fishing"?
I have been so busy this spring (since late March) that I haven't even thought about fishing. So Ryan, I am jealous. The only thing my casting arm has been good for lately has been throwing batting practice to 8 year olds...and it's gonna stay that way for at least another month. |

Been wondering why you've been so quiet lately. When things slow down a bit, we'll have to meet up somewhere.

Ryan: Thanks... sounds like a plan for the morning... (perhaps morningS?). Last weekend the water was pretty high and I saw only one boat
out. So we went up to Roaring River and got caught up in the Kids Day hoopla...my goodness that was some party going on. Kids looked like they were
having a good ol' time.
Skillet: Fishing.... I had to look it up in a dictionary...then I had to cross-reference to 'fish'.... Its been so so long.... baseball with the grandkids, rain, work, chores, cleaning up from the storms... all take a toll. They'll be forced to let some water loose here in a little bit with 4 days of rain forecasted... is that possible? And here I thought last year was a wet one... Dave PS: If you see a guy standing in the river waving a stick .... that might be me. |

Hopefully they'll let some of that water go BEFORE the 4 days of rain happen. I'm not sure I understand the logic in keeping the lake less than a foot
from opening the flood gates when it's been nice and dry all week.

We need to work on you guys. You do know there are other fish besides trout.....like smallmouth bass!!!! ;) I have been working the creeks, rivers, and lakes
alot more with the higher water. The sun is going to send those guy deep, so look around the larger rocks and down trees. Or better yet, fish Beaver in the
morning and hit Lake Leatherwood in the afternoon then back to Beaver in the evenings.......

I am a big fan of a simple clouser, especially during the spring when they are feeding on baitfish heavily. If you can sneak out in the evening through the
morning, the big bass poppers are awesome. Also if there is no top water action, a big leech pattern or a wollie booger.
Leatherwood is impossible to fish w/o a boat of some sort. Pounding the banks produces the best fish for me, but I havent hit it hard with a full sink yet. They charge $2 for boat launch and have canoes and small two man scamps for rent. The issue I run into is its in a low spot, and long and narrow. So when the wind comes through, it flies. An anchor is your best friend out there. Being No Wake reallt helps with taking smaller watercraft out there. |

Had a great time out there with Toby and Dave. We fished up and down from Bathhouse. The fish were very finicky. Water was high but wadable from Taney. Snuck
into Toby's spot right before having to leave and got made a fool of by a few fish holding there. Was tossing Toby's TFO Teeny 10' 3wt. Loved
casting the big rod, it was very accurate. Just couldn't get my hookset timing down. Did get some nice drifts, if I do say do myself.

it was a blast today, not much happened after you left. Dave and I did manage a couple of doubles, then the fish totally shut off. Glad you liked the 5wt, you can fish it anytime. You did get some nice drifts, just have to remember not to set like tarpon LOL Lets do it agian soon Toby |

Sounds like y'all had a lot of fun out there. I need to branch out from the dam area and explore a bit more up there...

Hey:Was up there yesterday morning and up until they sounded the horn...fished downstream of the bathouse area . Zach, didnt' see you post until this
morning otherwise I'd have given you a heads up. A friend and I were fishing together. He is new to the area and to Beaver tailwaters...he found it to be
very unlike the freestone streams he's fished for many years. I had a fairly good day in the morning... midges of course... and he caught on to the
subtleties of dead drifts by late morning... and we had good fishing after lunch break right up until they sounded the horn. They were definitely hitting
lightly and sporadically. Can't tell ya how many we missed. But, we both caught some nice rainbows... the largest I caught was a real chunk about 14
inches.
Water came up fast after they sounded the horn and some young guys fishing the bank from the island got wet after waiting too long to get off the island... got a bit dicey for a moment. They all got wet up to their chests climbing out of the back channel and they all have a story to tell for a while. Too bad about not meeting up... Dave |

Dave I think we might have met and didnt realize it. If I remember right, two gentlemen walked past me heading downstream of the bathouse. I was up on the rock
trying to figure out what the water did after the rapids(that were not present). I am pretty sure you asked how fishing was. Funny who we run into on the water
and dont even realize it. Toby(antronmidge) was upstream and across the small inlet from me.

Hi Zach:

I was throwing a few different scuds and the others were throwing midges. There was NOT very much surface activity at all. Never had any luck with dries, but
have thought about an emerger that is dropped from a parachute. There were a handful caught, but it sure wasnt as good as it could have been.
I saw a few midges int eh air, but they were tiny. |

Saw the same thing Thursday, only a bit more of them in the air and some birds swooping around. Still didn't try any dries, though. I've tried them a
couple of times up there, only catching frustration and no fish. Did try a soft hackle on the way out, but only half-heartedly for a few last casts.
If the generation schedule permits, I'm going to try to sneak up there tomorrow morning for 2-3 hours before work again, if anyone's interested. |

Just coming back to this thread after my last post---like I said, baseball and work are keeping me hopping.
Zach, if I had time to get to ANY water, I would certainly try it right now...in fact, I thought about going out to just try and catch some bream, just for the fun of it. But I just can't seem to find/make the time... Glad to see you boys are having fun. I'll get back at it some day... jb |
