Posts: 2793 05/20/09 11:07:16	Tags : None Especially for those who have been before, what do you think the prospects for the FFF holding the national conclave in the area? I submitted to an online poll about that recently and voted to move the conclave around. I know they're having it in Loveland, CO this year, but it's been in Livingston, MT for years, right? Do you think if they DID have it in the area - Mt Home, Springfield, Memphis, Dallas, etc. - do you think you would be more apt to attend? Posts: 52 05/20/09 12:07:41	Of the 4, Springfield or Mountain Home makes the most sense. There is good fishing close by those locations. I'll bet it will be hard to get the conclave out of the west. If they do, I'd bet they would look to the east coast. It would be cool to have it in the area though, I would be there for sure. Good luck.

Posts: 348 05/21/09 22:33:16 Member	As convenient as it would be to only travel 6 hours to a national conclave, I would not favor it. When I find the time to get away for national, I want to go west and do some Rockies fishing. This would also have a potential effect of cannibalizing the SOC conclave and Sowbug. We are actually quite capable of putting on a council conclave that exceeds the national if we keep the momentum going. It is a fundraiser and you would be hitting the same wallets twice in a short period. I think that the key to all of these events is to promote a high level of educational value and create great social opportunities for people to loosen up and have fun. I'm sure that I'm not alone in thinking that if I'm on vacation, I want to have fun. I don't want to spend my evenings sitting in a crappy hotel bar talking about the merits of egg flies. Give me some good food, a little music, a few beers and a chance to meet some nice people and talk to old friends. I would love to do that in the big mountains. If I get to go, I promise you there will be a Free State party one night.

Posts: 16 05/22/09 07:07:26	Terry, The FFF National Conclave has been held east of the Rockies at least three times in recent years: Penn State, Gatlinburg, and Michigan. The first two were horrible financial disasters, and as I remember, Michigan wasn't a exactly great (financially speaking). They were all good conclaves, but all three were racked with problems: i.e. as they were not part of the local reps. normal schedual, few local reps. supported these conclaves; for whatever reason, the vast majority of the "Regular Attendees" to the National didn't travel "east"; and regardless of the promises from strong local "eastern" FFF clubs to bring "x-numbers of Federators" if the National Conclave was in their back yard, the crowds weren't there. The National Conclave is an extremely important part of the FFF National office's yearly budget, and while we'd all love to have a National in the area, with the record outlined above, I don't see the FFF rolling those dice again anytime soon.
