Now that it has been out for awhile, those of you who have used it, what do you think? Is it worth the $? Does it cast farther easier, float higher? Is this
the best thing out there? Thumbs up or down?

I really do like the lines. I'll need more time to tell if the value reflects the relatively high price. If I can get 3 or 4 years out of my workhorse
lines instead of 6 months, I'll call them a bargain.
I learned something about casting them that I'll share, in case anyone has experienced this situation as I have. They are sooooo free-shooting, that there are often times when some educated drag upon shooting is required to make your loops behave the way they "normally" do with your familiar flylines. Once you get used to them (maybe 4 to 6 casting or fishing sessions) they really handle nicely and enhance your fishing. I really like the fact that I don't have to clean my lines and they'll still cast beautifully. I'm terrible about never cleaning my lines... Oh, and you may find that you need a stripping finger protector of some type. haul |

"Oh, and you may find that you need a stripping finger protector of some type." just curious if you have noticed any wear to the finish of your
rod? i would think that if it roughed your fingers up, it would do the same to the finish of the rod where the line was pinched against it as you stripped.

No rod wear that I've noticed, but that may take more time. I don't pinch the line against the rod, I tuck it in the last crease of my right middle
finger (inside knuckle closest to the fingertip). That wears through very quickly, despite the calluses that I've built up... Very similar to
Cortland's Tropic Plus lines, with the bumpy texture... I use a "finger condom" whenever I'm casting these textured lines now, which
probably helps keep them somewhat clean. Maybe that's why I don't have to wash them to keep them shooting and floating -- I'm constantly wiping
them clean!
BTW, you can buy the lycra finger condoms in fly shops (Mangrove makes some that work well). But you can also make your own. Some of the new-fangled undergarments (UnderArmour and their clones) make perfect finger condoms if you cut them up and sew them into little tubes. My son tore up one of his no-name underarmour shirts and threw it away. I pulled it from the trash and immediately shouted "finger condoms!!". My wife gave me a very worried look before I followed with "so i don't tear up my stripping finger when casting the Sharkskin!!" She made me like 25 of them in less than an hour, and I gave about 15 of them away to guys in my local club. What's nice is that I can just toss them after a full day fishing, rather than try to save them for another trip. Troy |
