Way to go, John! Based on what I've seen and what I'm reading here, poaching on Dry Run Creek must be a daily occurrence. What we need are signs
posted stating violators will be shot. At the least, I like the suggestion to have the AGF violation hot line number posted.

My wife, Lori, and I were guiding two girls and one boy on Dry Run for the last two days. Sad to say we frequently see violations. On the way
out today, we ran into Dave and Emily Whitlock doing some survey work for the new fishing structure. It was nice to see them again.

How many do you figure you run off in a years time John?

Sad to say, quite a few. I do not keep statistics on it but this year I remember over a half dozen. I guide there often and it drives me crazy
to see people illegally fishing there.

My guess is you are underestimating JB. Especially in a low water year.

Good work, John. I nominate you for Sheriff of the "Dry Run Posse"!
Do you notice having a suspicious attitude about most of the people you see fishing there until you can prove to yourself that they're fishing legally? I've had that feeling myself the times when I've been there with my boys. I felt bad about it (having the "guilty until proven innocent" attitude) when in reality the violators are surely in the minority. jb |

We need to have better signs since today's dumb !!* fool poachers cannot read an 8 foot wide, 12 ft tall sign with 8 inch letters that says barbless,
single hook, now worms, ..etcetera even when their truck is parked in front of the sign..3 adult males setting the example gor the 3 or 4 kids with them on DRY
RUN CREEK. We need a full time warden or just close it down for good. That plain and simple.
What a job the wetland killers did on the Norfork, it will never be the same. Rev |

A good start is that if you see violations simply take the time to go call the authorities. They will usually come and rather quickly. There was a 5 member
family fishing with power bait, culling fish and no telling what else about 100 yards below the red signs at the dam on the Lil Red this past Wednesday. We
took the time to go call. The game warden game, watched them for a while, then went and gathered them all up and when we left an hour latter he was still up at
the truck writing up their citations. All you have to do is call and the game wardens will come. Trying to tell people they are doing something wrong is pretty
useless, however calling will get results more times than not.
Please check your fly often!

Ifish the Little Red as prime water and called on three guys taking second and third limits in JFK parlk last weekend and you are right since the warden came
and citations were served.DRC an collins CReek are different . DRC if you read the forum each week you will see constant reference to people breaking the law
so the question becomes how many wardens does it take to squeeze these dumb $*% fools wallets out.
REv. I am tired of them. When people disobeyed the law in Bull Shoals Park we got it shut down right to the wing dam. |

Mark Lavelle wrote: I agree 100%. Just call the law. The phone number is right on the back of your fishing license, and the AGFC dispatcher answers the phone 24/7. I don't bother pointing out to people that they are breaking the law anymore, because it's never done any good in the past when I've done it. Besides, it's not up to me to educate the poachers. 99% of them know that they are breaking the law and don't care. For those that are truly ignorant, that's their problem, and a hefty fine will educate them better than anything you or I could say. JUST CALL THE POACHING HOTLINE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR FISHING LICENSE. That's what it's there for, and it works. The game wardens love
catching poachers in the act so they usually show up very quickly. As far as I'm concerned, people really don't have the right to complain about stuff
like this unless they do something about it when they see it happening right under their nose.

I guided two darling girls yesterday at DRC for their first fly fishing experience, while there l picked up 3 illegal baits attached to hooks and mono, two of
which were power bait, the other a treble hooked spinner bait.
Also counted 15 dead fish, one of which died from a illegal deep set hook. The girls by the way had a great time, way over 40 fish for the day, and some very nice fish at that. Rev. The upper section of DRC above the road is Federal property and belongs to the hatchery, below the road bridge is COE. AGFC position is to enforcement through the system. Hopefully when we have the habitat work and improved access at DRC it will to some extent help the situation so far as illegal fishing as there will be way easier means to access the creek at stream side for enforcement to catch those persons, as of now it is not so easy for then to do that without climbing over the fence. We also plan to have new signs Davy.

Davy,
I believe the guys I saw were using treble hooks. Sounds like you all care about this resource and get the poaching under control and not just sit back and do nothing. Rev. |

Rev,
Yes for sure we do. One problem we have here is being able to use a cell phone, l have no signal with ATT. During hatchery open hours go the the office and they will call AGFC it is hatchery property above the road bridge. The other issue is that there is no presence of enforcement. Sad to say, no way can there be a 24/7 presence. It is issue l have discussed with Jeff Williams, and one that we may be able to in some way change in the future, once we have the work done at the creek. Davy

The main issue for that idea is liability, if we were subject to bodily harm. The USFW services could not be held accountable unless we were a employee. AGFC
would have to in some way take on the liability for those they deputized.
Game a fish officers have to serve at least 3 years in enforcement, which could be in the Forest service, National parks, local or State police or other. As a matter of interest it is by and large the adults who are up to no good while they have the kids with them or allowing the kid to fish by illegal methods. I myself have not caught any youngsters fishing illegally, when no adults were present. DRC is out of the way for the majority of kids to get too, as we know under 16 years of age would not be able to drive there in the first place. I would for one like to see a sign that states, fines can be imposed up to $1000 . Davy

Guys,
Great responses to this situation. Glad tohear that new work is going to happen on DRC. Chesepeake just paid AGFC 26 million dollas for mineral rights in Petit Jean and another AGFC property. Use a little and USF&W might kick in some too. Where there is w flyfisherpersons will there is a way. Rev |

Rev, are you serious, ARFC were paid 26 mill.
USFW is of course a very different identity as it is not State, but Federal. We do have funds and grants available for programs that are educationally based, which can be used to ward the DRC project. We are working with some of those as of now. Davy.
