Generation has been around the clock as the Corp. lowers the lake to power pool. Drift fishing from a boat is the only option during this period of high water. Use high water nymph tactics with larger flies; San juan worms, scuds, sow bugs, pheasant tails and zebra midges (sizes 12 - 16). The TU meeting last night provided an informal presentation by the COE regarding minimum flow and its instituion on the Norfork initially then the White. One question was regarding how many inches the river would raise when compared to current minimum flow - if memory serves this was discussed by John Wilson a few months back.

My main question is regarding boats on the Norfork if minimum flow is increased to 300 cfs. I know there are discussions about limiting jets vs certain...

Well it gets stranger and stranger. Imagine if you can in the picture below the benches (tables) on the right nearly totally underwater. That is what you have at present with "flood" gates open. A lot of the mulch must now be down around Calico Rock. The new parking lot which was paved just a couple of weeks ago is probably the only place you can wade on the Fork.

Two weeks sure does go by in a hurry! But, it has been good.

Saved the best for last as far as fishing goes. Have been fishing the confluence mostly with moderate success. Today the Fork was off from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Made a couple of drifts while the water fell out without any success. Trip Report Update Wed. Nov. 12

Pulled into town last night about dark. Got up this morning and did a little work on the boat, trailer, etc. Figure I'll need it before too long!

They turned the water off about 11 a.m. and I made it down to the handicap access about 2:30 p.m. The Fork is still fishing good. If you can stand the crowds. The numbers (of fish) are not as high but still decent. Caught a nice bow first thing. Most folks seem to be catching some fish.

Who knows how long the water will be...

I usually try to stay off the Fork on Saturday's but since we are only going to be here for a few days this trip I said , "Why not." They cut the water off at about nine a.m. which allowed me to sleep in! Got to the handicapped access about 11:00 and was the first one up the river. Fished at Charlies and did pretty good. Once the water had fallen out they hammered the zebra midge on a consistent basis. Did fair on the wooly and got a couple on a sow bug. No big fish and all...

The other day some mention was made of possible minimum flow in ~2 years I believe on the Norfork. Is there a good idea of what the cfs might be at that level?

It looks like they are running about 1.5 units on the NF this morning...a change from their patters all week. With the lake still 4 feet above power pool, does this mean they will run pretty steady for a while? Not sure if they will back off cause of Conclave or not.

I was lucky enough to get to fish with some family this weekend. They've never seen AR fishing before and I was excited to introduce them to it. Quarry Park Ramp Closure 9/24

Does anyone know the details of this? I heard they were going to resurface that parking lot starting on 9/24. Is this a multiple day deal or just that day? Will the entire area be closed or can I use the old ramp (better than nothing). I was looking forward to a choice week day on the fork. Any info to help figure this out would be greatly appreciated. Or, someone I can call for those details would be helpful.

Sting Operations

It is about time we had another sting operation on the Norfork. Here are what I understand were the results of the two previous sting operations (reprinted). When 60-70% of the guides that are surveyed are committing game violations it is pretty much the wild west out there. Remember this is a "one day" contact with an AGFC officer. The fact that 60-70% were issued violations after a brief contact indicates a "real" problem.
