With the low water and limited generation, fishing has been fun. I have been fishing the usual selections of Zebra midges and have been doing well. I decided to branch out a bit and took out a 3WT with about 15' of leader and tippet down to 7X. I tried a size 18 Red Hot .. red thread, red flashabou with a red tungsten bead and did okay. Then I went to a size 18 Desert Storm .. red thread, black tungsten bead and pearl krystal flash. On both patterns the "flash" is spiraled...

I drove up from Memphis and fished on the falling water. Ended up being a beautiful afternoon. Fished from 2:30-4 at Cow Shoals and then 4-5 at Winkley Shoals. Cow Shoals was crowded, but not terrible. Caught several on a UV Tan Sowbug. Drove to Winkley and the fishing really picked up. I was using a Red A$$ under the UV Tan Sowbug. Every fish I caught was on the Red A$$. If you can make it to the Little Red during this window of wadeable water it will be worth it. Wonderful fishing day!

I got to JFK this afternoon and saw only 3 or 4 other folks fishing .. both spin and fly. After about 20 minutes it was down to one other fly fisherman and me. I caught a few fish on the 4WT and a size 16 Zebra. After awhile I changed to the new Flyrod Chronicle 3WT I won at the conclave. I put on a size 18 wine and copper Zebra with 6X. We are currently experiencing low dissolved oxygen levels in the Little Red during periods of water release. The State mandated lower limit of dissolved oxygen concentration for trout is 6.0 mg/l.

and it may be the last in awhile. I got to fish about 4 hours and caught about 30 fish .. all rainbows. Nothing big but a bunch of fun. The hot fly was a black and copper Zebra midge. The biggest fish was a male about 13" and all colored up caught on a red and copper Zebra. Several of the fish were dumping milt. The last hour .. or right about dusk I switched to a wine and copper Zebra and caught fish on that too. Midges were thick. I almost felt like I was in a snow storm. I had won a...

I hope that someone is keeping an eye on the DO on the Little Red with all this generation. I'm not sure where it's taken but the high DO on the Corps water management page since 10:00 yesterday morning is a whopping 5.3 .. and that's the high reading. Not looking good.

Since the river was fairly muddy this weekend, we put in at the dam on Friday and went up, we threw large white
articulated streamers and caught a fair amount of browns, beautiful color on all of them. After about an hour the
horn went off and they threw two generators at us. We went down to Cow, we threw the same streamer and did

Went down to the Swinging Bridge yesterday. Had by far the best numbers day of the year for me. The fishing was stupid easy. Ended up with something on the obscene side of 100 fish for the day. After a while it got almost boring, so I went down to Charlie's Island and threw streamers for a good couple of hours. Acouple of small bows and one brown of about 18" that came out of a pile of logs to smash the streamer. Pretty cool to watch.

Trout Unlimited chapter 722 (Little Red River) is hosting a fly fishing film tour at the Clinton Library on 10 October. Doors open at 5:30 pm and show starts at 7:00 pm. Advanced tickets $20 from various locations and chapter board members ( I have some ). Sales will be used to help the Little Red. Finger foods and a cash bar.
