midges at the dam

I know its looking like wading wont be possible for a while but I am curious if anyone can offer any advice on fishing midges at the dam or around JFK. I have fished there some with little success. I dont fish often as I am from Memphis but I like to camp at JFK. I have had several people tell me midges work really well there. What sizes, colors and techniques can anyone offer?

and I made the most of it. I knew with all the water they had been running it would be awhile before it fell out. They stopped generating this morning at 10 so I figured about 4 1/2 to 5 hours should be a good time. I got to the park about 2:30'ish and the water was still high but it was falling. Fished this weekend in the boat on the high water, we threw huge articulated streamers. WHITE was the color,
it outcaught the other colors (black, olive, ginger) 10 to 1. I have never had as many fish hit the streamers like
this weekend, we fished from winkley to below scroncher again, we would fish one area for about an hour,
then let it rest and head down, and do the same over and over, I would say the largest brown was around 24
inches, and yesterday we boated well...

Hey guys I normally come up and fish the spawn during December but with all the high water not sure if I am going to make it this year. I do have a boat and was thinking of doing the trip even with the high water but was not sure if it would be worth while b/c it will be just me and I will have to anchor up to fish.
What do yall think all the high water is going to do to the spawn this year?
Can you fish the top of cow schoal (the little islands) with 2 units running?
Any other...

I was able to fish the Little Red on Thursday and Friday last week. We put in at swinging bridge and made the float from Winkley to Scroncher
about 10 times, we picked up tons of fish, mainly on the Y2K peaches/cream color and some on the pink san juan. I was able to turn
about 3 browns on large streamers in the 20" range, they were angry hits. We had a decent 50 or so fish day, the current was fairly swift

I'm new to flyfishing and would love to be able to fish the Little Red this saturday. Me and my brother are going to give it a try this weekend. I plan on stopping into the local flyshop to pick up a few things and hopefully get a little advice about where to go while we are there. With the low water and limited generation, fishing has been fun. I have been fishing the usual selections of Zebra midges and have been doing well. I decided to branch out a bit and took out a 3WT with about 15' of leader and tippet down to 7X. I tried a size 18 Red Hot .. red thread, red flashabou with a red tungsten bead and did okay. Then I went to a size 18 Desert Storm .. red thread, black tungsten bead and pearl krystal flash. On both patterns the "flash" is spiraled...

I drove up from Memphis and fished on the falling water. Ended up being a beautiful afternoon. Fished from 2:30-4 at Cow Shoals and then 4-5 at Winkley Shoals. Cow Shoals was crowded, but not terrible. Caught several on a UV Tan Sowbug. Drove to Winkley and the fishing really picked up. I was using a Red A$$ under the UV Tan Sowbug. Every fish I caught was on the Red A$$. If you can make it to the Little Red during this window of wadeable water it will be worth it. Wonderful fishing day!

I got to JFK this afternoon and saw only 3 or 4 other folks fishing .. both spin and fly. After about 20 minutes it was down to one other fly fisherman and me. I caught a few fish on the 4WT and a size 16 Zebra. After awhile I changed to the new Flyrod Chronicle 3WT I won at the conclave. I put on a size 18 wine and copper Zebra with 6X. We are currently experiencing low dissolved oxygen levels in the Little Red during periods of water release. The State mandated lower limit of dissolved oxygen concentration for trout is 6.0 mg/l.

and it may be the last in awhile. I got to fish about 4 hours and caught about 30 fish .. all rainbows. Nothing big but a bunch of fun. The hot fly was a black and copper Zebra midge. The biggest fish was a male about 13" and all colored up caught on a red and copper Zebra. Several of the fish were dumping milt. The last hour .. or right about dusk I switched to a wine and copper Zebra and caught fish on that too. Midges were thick. I almost felt like I was in a snow storm. I had won a...
