FYI ; Chad Johnson's (Guide and Mountain River)wifeTiffany has been diagnosed with a Syrinx (spinal tumor)and three brain tumors that are going to require at least one and possibly multiple surjuries. They are headed to Little Rock again tomorrow with surgery tentatively scheduled before Christmas.

Arkansas TU Council's Letter to AGFC

The guaging graph looks like they are releasing water through the flood gates at BSD now too. I knew they were doing that at Norfork, but didn't realize it was hapening at BSD. Are they in fact running water through the flood gates at BSD?

Jack Gartside passes away

I received the sad new yesterday from a mutual friend that Jacks battle with lung cancer was lost.

Jack was a character like no other in the business l have ever known, if you spent time with him you will find that out in a hurry.
He and l spent many times together working at FF events in EU and the UK.

Don't know how many know that Michael Kyle has sold Backcountry Outfitters fly shop in Springfield. The new owners are Tim and Becky Fowkes from around Monette, MO. Tim took over this week and I've been helping him. We will have an email list and will send out updates and specials.

Eleven Point Trip

My fly club friend, Joe, and I made plans to fish with Brian Sloss on the Eleven Point River Saturday. Having heard good reports from others fishing with Brian recently and the other rivers...well, you know. However, we didn't plan on it being 13 degrees. Lake storage capacity

The amount of water that has to go through each dam is pretty much porportional to the amount of storage each lake has. Excluding additional rain events and natural inflow, you can more or less infer the amount of water that has to be removed in cubic feet. As the lake gets higher however it will hold increasingly more water. For instance Table Rock Lake has a surface area of 43,000 acres at normal pool but at flood pool is has a surface area of 52,000 acres. Here are the total surface areas...

I don't know how bad the situation is in the Mountain Home area, but around Heber Springs there has been a problem with the water trucks in the area. There have been at least 3 instances in the Heber area .. that I am aware of .. involving these trucks and personal vehicles. Pam .. from the fly shop .. was forced off the road this morning by one of the trucks that had drifted across the center line. The driver of the truck didn't even stop to see how she was. High Water flows and Spawning

I was thinking about the influx of high water during the spawn, if this will cause a major problem with the fish completing their spawn or the flushing of the redds and eggs? Also, I would think for the fish that havn't started they would search out slower flowing areas along the gravel shorelines.

What does everyone else think ?

Okie trout water

A friend just returned from a "drive by" of a S.E. Okla. tailwater and saw no fishermen the entire length of the stream. Perplexed, as the water looked quite fishy.
Anyone know about the following: Lower Mountain Fork river near Broken Bow reservoir. The state park is the Beaver's Bend state park and resort. It is a tailwater situation.

"The arteriogram did find a blockage in one major artery and he has decided to go ahead and get-R-done. they moved him to St. Thomas today and he will be having a stint installed tomorrow and should be out of the hospital...

Baxter Bulletin reports to day that the COE will open all gates and flood gates with limited release, expected by Tuesday for White/Norfork.
Enjoy the next few days if you can get out there and float in sensible water.

that probably can't be answered but I'll ask it anyway. I understand the water releases being what's necessary until the situation down river is under control. It seems that the Corps had set a goal of 1000 mwh on the Little Red until the full bore releases take affect. Tuesday they shut down all generation for 7 hours because G & F had some sort of project they needed low water for. At the end of the 7 hours they increased the flow to make up for the hours of no generation...

Streamer Fly Lines

I want to put a new fly line on my 7wt TCX for streamer fishing the White. I was thinking about RIO's DC 24' 200 grain sink tip. It has a sink rate of about 5" per second. Does anyone prefer a full sinking line or will the 24' sink tip work just fine. Does it need to be heavier on higher generation? Any advice and suggestions is appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving. Ted
